It has been a few weeks since I have attentded the Rachel Vanoven newborn workshop so I wanted to take some time to blog about what a wonderful experience that it was for me and my business. I have been wanting to attend a workshop for a while now, but having had my 4th child, I wanted to wait until he was done nursing to explore that option. I have always loved newborn photography and it was time for me to perfect my newborn skills. I have been a fan of Rachel’s work for quite some time, so when she announced that she was doing several workshops in 2014 I decided it was time to jump on the bandwagon. I booked the first 2014 workshop in January and I was all set. I just hoped and prayed that the weather would cooperate for me. I didn’t have to worry about flying in, but I had a 2 hour drive to worry about. The weather was perfect, so I was set to go, after I gave the hubby some last minute instructions
We got to meet Rachel and her awesome assistant Brianna at dinner the night before. We had a great dinner at an amazing restaurant. I even branched out a bit and tried mussels. Not too bad! We took a quick trip to see where her studio was and we headed back to the hotel. The next morning went by so fast, but was full of information. We had 3 different models that we got to work with. This first little miss was amazing to say the least. She put up with several setups and didn’t make a peep.
All of these setups and props are by the talented Rachel Vanoven. All images were shot and edited by me! You can find her amazing work here
We moved on to the next little girl who had a beautiful head of dark hair. She showed us how to put to sleep a fussy baby. She didn’t want to sleep, but Rachel showed us her awesomeness and she was out.

The third model brought her adorable big sister with her.
This is Rachel stands out. She is amazing with all kids, even if she isn’t taking their pictures. She let big sister take some pictures of little sister. How sweet is this??

When day 1 was over, we got to do some editing with Rachel. Usually, so doesn’t go to dinner, but she was craving her favorite restaurant, so she tagged along with us to have some yummy food!!
crappy cell phone pic!
Day 2 was when Rachel would pose the baby and we got to pick which pose we wanted to work on. We got to do hands on posing with the baby to perfect the pose that we wanted.
I chose to do this one. I like simple poses for baby, and this one is one of my favorites!
We got to do some parent and prop posing as well.
Yep, that’s Rachel’s butt

My workshop buddies!
We ended the day with some pictures!
Rachel totally got pooped on, so this was a thrown together outfit for her. Don’t judge
Overall, this workshop was amazing. It was small enough with only 5 girls, and we got to see a wide range of poses. It was awesome to be able to pose a baby as well. I learned a ton of information from Rachel. She is an amazing person who has a wealth of knowledge to share about newborn photography. She is a great teacher and I am so glad to have learned from one of the best. I truly enjoyed meeting her and the other 4 women at my workshop.
